Here is what this year's plan looks like:
- Create a GAFutures account here: www.gafutures.org This is where your HOPE GPA is located.
- Learn about your interests. Whether college, military, or career training after high school, start researching! Personality and interest inventories.
- Make a file to manage your college search. If you have not already, create a professional email address that you can use for college applications, scholarships, etc.
- Take the PSAT or ASVAB.
- College bound? PSAT is your BEST practice tool for preparing for the SAT. Resources available here:
- Military/Career bound? The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test can help shed light on your strengths and aptitude.
- BOOK YOUR JUNIOR ADVISMENT MEETING WITH YOUR COUNSELOR!
- Sign up to take the SAT/ACT during the spring semester. Most up to date information can be found on these websites:
- Most colleges will accept either test.
- Writing requirement varies by college.
- SAT/ACT are typically required for admissions to 4-year colleges.
- SAT Subject Tests: Required by a few highly competitive colleges.
- Students can take BOTH.

**Many schools are making testing optional due to COVID-19, Make sure you check with each school you are interested in attending.
- Continue to research your post-secondary options (colleges/careers).
- Take the SAT/ACT if required and available
- College? Create a list of schools to visit and/or research further. Most campuses offer virtual tours! And sign up for virtual college visits through Naviance!
- Career? Set up a meet and greet with a professional in your career of interest. Ask them what steps they took to get where they are.
- Military? Research the different branches of the military. Set up a meeting with a military recruiter in the specific branch you are interested in.
- ASVAB: Aptitude/career exam required for entrance into the military that determines your eligibility for military jobs.
Other tests that might be of interest or benefit:
- Accuplacer: Placement exam for two year & technical colleges. Schedule to take the test at your chosen college.
- Register with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Eligibility Center if you are an athlete planning to continue playing a sport in college (www.ncaaclearinghouse.net).
- Visit colleges. When planning your campus visits, make sure to allow time to explore each college. Take campus tours and, at colleges you’re serious about, make appointments to have interviews with admission counselors if available. Most campuses offer virtual tours!
- Take the SAT/ACT if necessary
- Create a résumé — a record of your academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and work experiences since you started high school.
- Make a list of 3-5 schools you plan on completing applications for in the fall.
