High School Graduation Requirements

  • Determined by Georgia Department of Education
  • Tracked by you, your teachers, and your school counselor 
  • Must be met before you earn a high school diploma
  • Includes 23 required credits:
    • English             4 credits                       Electives                             7 credits
      Math                 4 credits                       Health/Personal Fitness 1 credit
      Social Studies  3 credits
      Science              4 credits
  • Grading Scale

      A = 90-100        4.0             4.5                   5.0
      B = 80-89          3.0             3.5                   4.0
      C = 74-79           2.0             2.5                   3.0
      D = 70-73          1.0              1.5                    2.0

College Admissions Requirements

  • Determined by individual college. Often greater than graduation requirements (even in Georgia) i.e., math or world languages 
  • Tracked by you - it is your responsibility to find out what the different schools you are interested in applying to require 
  • Must take required entrance exams (SAT, ACT, ACCUPLACER) 
  • Meeting the minimum admissions requirements does not guarantee admissions

 

What you need to know

  • The various types of GPA (college, core, HOPE, and cumulative)
  • Your test scores and how they stack up to those admitted to your college of interest
  • The following information for your schools of interest:
    • Minimum acceptance requirements
    • Average high school GPA & test scores of the most recent freshman class. This is referred to as the freshman profile 
    • Application deadline
  • Compare your stats with the minimum requirements and freshman profile
